Missio Aachen and the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) have recently established the Asia-Missio Desk through a partnership agreement on Strengthening Subsidiarity in the Asia Region. This new desk is dedicated to supporting Missio projects across Asia, including overseeing current initiatives and facilitating the assessment and development of project proposals and reports from various countries in the region. The establishment of this desk marks a critical step in Missio’s mission to strengthen its regional presence, improve responsiveness to local needs, and foster closer partnerships with stakeholders across Asia. It is set up in the spirit of localized leadership and subsidiarity, rooted in a deep understanding of Asia’s diverse contexts and challenges.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Regional Project Officer will support the work of the Asia-Missio Desk in assessing and managing Missio Aachen projects across Asia. This role requires strong coordination skills to help evaluate, process, and monitor project proposals and reports received from Asian countries, making sure that they are aligned with Missio’s strategic goals and thematic priorities. The Assistant will work closely with FABC’s Asia Regional Officer and Missio Aachen teams, supporting both program management and stakeholder communication to significantly contribute to Missio’s decisions related to project applications and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing of project grant applications and reports from Asian countries through the Easydor online portal and submitting assessment of grant applications and reports to Missio’s project conferences and project management/controlling.
- Tracking and monitoring awarded grants, to ensure compliance with Missio’s requirements and project policies.
- Providing logistical and operational support, as well as, maintaining strong relationships and communication channels with project partners across Asia, to build capacity among Asian partners in developing project proposals and budgets that are aligned with pastoral strategic goals.
- Maintaining constant exchange with the desk officer at Missio Aachen to intensify co-operation, strengthen subsidiarity in project work, and mutually decide on project proposals and reports.
- Assisting in facilitating the revision or development of Country Policies of the Bishops’ Conferences in Asia, in collaboration with the desk officer at Missio Aachen.
- Assisting in coordinating the day-to-day activities and administrative tasks of the Asia-Missio Desk in Bangkok.

Qualifications:
- Holder of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Development, Project Management, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- At least two years of professional experience
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Very good knowledge of English; Knowledge of German language is an asset, but not required
- Familiarity with grant-writing, budget management, and project monitoring.
- Skillful in the use of IT (i.e. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams)
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church and its core values
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and partners
- Willingness to travel to various countries in Asia and Europe, especially for training in Germany (for 4-6 weeks)
